Term 1 News

Dear Everyone,

I can't believe it is almost the October Half-term break. I have absolutely loved getting to know everyone in my first term at The Royal School and want to say a big thank you for making me feel so welcome. I also want to extend a warm welcome to our new families that have joined the school community this term, our new children have all settled in happily.
Although the term didn't start off as expected, with the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, it has certainly been a busy one and the weeks have flown by. We have enjoyed the beautiful late summer weather and have made the most of our outside environment - the children have now noticed the autumn colours are beginning to creep across The Great Park.
I hope you all have a really lovely Half Term break - I think everyone is exhausted!

Harvest Festival

Canon Poll joined us for our Harvest Festival. Thank you very much for your generous donations of food and toiletries that we passed on to Runnymede Food-bank to support people in our local community.

Some of the children were also able to harvest our own fruit and vegetables from the school garden. This was sold at the school gate and raised just over £10 which the children will use to buy seeds etc.. for next year's planting.

Supporting and Volunteering

There are always volunteering opportunities in school. If you have some spare time and would like to come in and do things such as listening to children read, helping out in classrooms, supporting on trips or gardening etc.. I would love to hear from you.  Similarly if you have a particular talent or craft that the school can benefit from or business links that can help us please let me know.

Volunteers do need to have certain checks undertaken i.e. DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) and reference checks, but these will all be applied for by the office staff.

Thank you to the PTA for organising our garden clear day before term started and to everyone who helped out despite the rain starting!. The children have used the new football goal and the basket ball hoops everyday at break and lunchtimes.
Thank you also to everyone who came to the staff, governor and PTA AGM evening - lots of exciting new events are being planned which are not only fun but also bring much needed funds into the school.

Wellies

We have loads of wellies around the school, many of which look like they have been here for a very long time! Please can you ask your child to take their wellies home over the break so that we can sort out the ones that are left and see which can be recycled in a welly swap.
Winter Uniform

The weather is changing and it is certainly getting chillier. After Half-term we are asking that the children please come to school in The Royal School's winter uniform, please see the website for details. If you need uniform items speak to Mrs Terry in the office.
Please make sure all items of clothing are named - especially hats, gloves and scarves that are easily misplaced! Could all the children please bring a coat to school as well, if we can get the children outside for a run around we will do!
Woodland Display

I am hoping to put together a display of creatures that live in The Great Park. If any of the children over the break would like to draw, paint, colour or craft a woodland animal or bird that lives in the park, or perhaps write about one of the creatures then that would be fantastic and I can add their work to the display when we return to school.
School Council

On Thursday 3rd November we will be holding our School Council elections for the children in Years 1, 2 and 3. If they would like to stand for election, the children are being asked to write their manifesto over the Half-term break and then present it to their class when we return to school - proformas can be collected from their class teachers. The children in their class will then be able to vote for one boy and one girl to represent their class on the School Council.
Our Year 4 School Council representatives for each of the different houses have already been appointed and are looking forward to leading the meetings.
