Autumn 2023

Dear Everyone,

We have got to the end of another really busy term - September seems such a long time ago and we have fitted so much in over the last few months!

We came back to school in September to the building looking lovely. The Wrens classroom was completely refurbished over the summer and was finished in time to welcome our new Reception class. Thank you to the Diocese of Oxford for funding the much needed work. New furniture and resources, funded by the PTA, have created a fantastic learning environment for our youngest children.
Over the summer The Crown Estate were also busy and completed phase one of the external painting of the school - we are grateful for their support and the outside of the front of the school looks lovely. Phase two is scheduled in for later in 2024.

On 13th September The Royal Forest Agricultural Show took place within The Great Park. The Robins children were collected by a tractor and trailer to attend the show, wearing the Coronation crowns they had made. A couple of older children accompanied them to lead our new sheep, Isaac and William, around the show ring - all were super excited and won rosettes for their efforts! Isaac and William have now gone back to the farm for the winter months.

We have participated in a number of sporting fixtures this term, developing our links with other local schools. The children have shown that they are great team players and have won all of the football matches we have played against other schools! Having joined Windsor Sports Partnership we are able to access training opportunities for our staff and have taken part in a number of collaborative sporting activities. We have some amazing cross country runners, and fantastic skippers, who were able to demonstrate their skills at the inter school skipping festivals!

We held our Harvest Festival at the end of September. Thank you to everyone who donated food and toiletries, a tremendous amount was donated to Runnymede Food Bank - a very worthy cause.  And thank you also for generous donations at our Macmillan coffee event and to Children in Need.

At the beginning of October we held an Old Scholars reunion. The old photo albums brought back many memories from by-gone days, it was lovely to chat to people about their experiences of The Royal School and how many changes there have been over the years - many stories to tell and listen to!

On the 13th November everyone was invited to attend school wearing odd socks - a reminder that we celebrate how we are all unique at the beginning of anti-bullying week. This year's theme was 'Make a Noise About Bullying' and the children took part in a variety of activities to raise awareness and help support them to speak up if something is wrong.

On the 20th November we had a very special visitor - His Majesty The King. His Majesty visited all of the classrooms and chatted to the children and members of staff. A really lovely morning and certainly one to remember!

Christmas was the focus of December! The whole school participated in our rather adventurous Nativity 'Lights, Camel, Action - It's Strictly The Nativity ' and did brilliantly! Learning lines, songs and dances Strictly Come Dancing style was a challenge but great fun!

A big thank you to the PTA for making and selling numerous cakes, sausage rolls, cups of hot chocolate and mulled wine at The Crown Estate Christmas Tree Depot. Another whole team effort displaying dedication to the school in adverse weather conditions!! I know that a lot of money has been raised so thank you to everyone involved.

In the last week of term we took the whole school on a trip to see Aladdin at the Theatre Royal Windsor - the show was fantastic and all the children (and adults) had a great time!

Christmas parties and a visit from Santa, Christmas jumpers, Christmas lunch, the PTA Christmas fair and our end of term Carol Service saw us through to the end of the term! I think everyone now needs a well deserved break!

I hope you all have a really lovely Christmas, all the best for 2024, and I look forward to seeing everyone again on Thursday 4th Jan.
